Besties: Prank War

by Kayla Miller and Jeffrey Canino

Trent and Sawyer make their Besties series debut with a bang and a crash! These two friends never back down from a challenge, whether it presents itself at the skate park or in the school hallway, but will that determination get them in over their heads?

Between helping with their friend Tyler’s RPG campaign, catching streams of pro skateboarder Trixie Sampson’s new video series, and—oh yeah—homework, Trent and Sawyer are more than a little busy…but when Trixie announces a competition that might result in the boys getting to meet her and her crew, how could they resist entering?!

The duo become single-minded in their quest to be the lucky “Trixsters” to win the prize, but it’s not easy pulling off the perfect prank and capturing it on video. With their friends growing resentful of being unwilling targets and after drawing the ire of the class prank queen, Nat, the buddies soon find themselves losing at their own game. As an all-out prank war spins out of control, Trent and Sawyer realize they might have pranked themselves by starting it.

Connor Kissed Me

by Zehava

Miriam is so surprised when her friend Connor kisses her that she doesn’t know how to react. Not sure what to do, she turns to the people around her–her best friend, the recess monitor, her teacher–but everyone has a different reaction and advice for Miriam. It’s not until she gets home and talks with her mom that Miriam stops to ask herself how shefeels about Connor’s kiss.

With simple text and expressive illustrations, Connor Kissed Me introduces young readers to consent and bodily autonomy in plain terms: always ask someone if it’s okay to kiss or hug, and listen if they say no!

Warrior: A Patient's Courageous Quest

By Shannon Stocker

One young warrior, Maria, prepares herself –again – to battle through a dangerous land in order to reach the bell on the mountain, ring it, and rid her kingdom of beasts. The brave girl faces Serpent Sea, Fear Forest, and Monster Mountain with courage–and help from a few friends. Will she reach the bell this time? At the end of the day’s disappointing quest, Maria returns to her hospital bed feeling beat. But her team reminds her of exactly who she is, a warrior. An allegory telling the courageous story of the millions of children battling cancers and chronic diseases–battling their own monsters every day.

Nice to meet you!

I’m Sarah; I’m an SCBWI member and a 2019 graduate of the Northwest College of Art and Design with a BFA in Visual Communications. I’m also represented by the amazing Ethan and Heather Long at Tugeau 2.

I’m originally from Seattle, Washington, but now live with my wonderful partner, deaf dog, and (way too many) houseplants south of Brisbane, Australia. When I’m not illustrating picture books or graphic novels, I can usually be found testing new recipes in the kitchen or trying to survive the Aussie heat on the beach.

My biggest goal is to spread love, acceptance, and positivity through my artwork. Thanks for checking out my stuff!
